Certainly, the Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) credential is designed for advanced practitioners who have extensive experience in portfolio management. To ensure that participants are well-prepared to absorb the course material and have the best chance of success in both the training and the certification process, the following are the minimum required prerequisites:
A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or the global equivalent) with at least 7 years (10,500 hours) of portfolio management experience within the past 15 consecutive years.
OR
A four-year degree (bachelor’s degree or the global equivalent) and at least 4 years (6,000 hours) of portfolio management experience within the past 15 consecutive years.
Additionally,
Understanding of the key concepts of portfolio management, including portfolio strategic alignment, governance, performance management, risk management, and communications management.
Familiarity with standard project management and business terminology.
Experience in managing multiple projects or programs is highly beneficial, although not strictly required.
It is also recommended that:
Candidates have some knowledge of or experience with organizational project management maturity.
Participants have a basic understanding of PMI standards and guidebooks, such as 'A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)' and 'The Standard for Portfolio Management.'
