VMware SRM is a business continuity and disaster recovery solution published by Broadcom that automates the recovery of virtual machines between protected and recovery vCenter Server sites. It eliminates manual processes in failover operations and integrates with VMware's virtualization stack to ensure consistent, repeatable recovery workflows. The solution operates through three core components: Site Recovery Manager Server, which orchestrates recovery plans; Protection Groups, which define sets of virtual machines to be replicated together; and Recovery Plans, which specify the sequence for powering on virtual machines, reconfiguring networks, and executing custom scripts. It supports both array-based replication via Storage Replication Adapters and vSphere Replication for individual virtual machines.
